While trying to gather a pass, the blue GS deflects the ball out of court over the goal line. Her momentum causes her to collide heavily with the goalpost. She gets back up and does not request injury time. Play continues with the red GK taking the throw in and passing to the red GD. The blue team primary carer approaches the reserve umpire and advises them that they wish to remove the blue GS from the court due to a suspected concussion.
The reserve umpire should advise the umpire as soon as possible that play needs to be stopped to facilitate the substitution of the blue GS. The blue GS must leave the court and can be replaced by another player from the team bench. Play restarts with possession awarded to the team last in possession where the ball was when play was stopped.
Explanation
As mentioned in Rule 4.14, a primary carer may ask the reserve umpire for play to be stopped to facilitate the substitution of a player with a suspected concussion. The stoppage should be managed similar to any other stoppage for injury to a player.
